When my first baby was born, I was over tired and a little overwhelmed but so in love with this tiny little person napping on the sofa next to me. In that state of exhaustion everything was quickly becoming a blur. I’ve always had a love for photography and the power a photograph holds to save a moment and take you back to a time that’s gone by, but that was amplified with the birth of my daughter. As she slept, I would take pictures of her tiny toes, the way her little hand rested, that tiny milkblister that had formed on her lip.
As she grew, time seemed to go faster and faster. The photos I was taking were important to me but I realized a few things. First, my daughter was getting tired of my camera antics and no longer giving me the natural expressions I wanted. She developed a killer “cheese” face and super fake smile. I wasn't a professional photographer yet and I could see the difference in quality between the pictures professionals were taking and my snapshots. And lastly, I wasn’t in any of the pictures because I was always behind the camera. So we all trekked down to the chain photo studio and awkwardly stood for 15 minutes for family photos. They drew me in with a low price that ended up not being so low and we walked away with a few prints and a disk of unedited images that are in a drawer some where. I knew there had to be a better way to preserve our memories and capture our growing family in a genuine and authentic way that was also beautiful.
Being photographed doesn't have to be painful and stressful! When you step in front of the camera, how you feel should mirror what’s going on in your lives and show that you lived. A session with a newborn baby can be peaceful and exciting. That glow of pride and love new parent’s feel should be exemplified in a beautiful canvas of your baby on the wall. A family photo session can be fun and playful and full of snuggles. All of the best parts of parenthood and family life captured on camera. Newborn sessions take place in my Loveland studio located at 907 Van Buren Ave, Suite 160. It's best for baby to come before 2 weeks old, but if you have missed this window, please do not hesitate to contact me to see what we can do! Younger babies tend to sleep better and be more flexible for the traditional newborn poses.
The studio is fully stocked with all kinds of props, hats, headbands and even little outfits. Traditional newborn sized clothing and accessories are often big on brand new babies. Everything in the studio is specially made to fit your little one in their first few days of life. I am absolutely happy to include any special items, like a lovey or quilt from grandma, please just let me know what you are bringing ahead of time so that I may prepare properly. I also keep the changing table fully stocked, so really all you need to bring is the baby <3
Just yourself! We keep snacks, coffee and water in the studio. Dress in layers as the studio gets pretty warm to keep baby comfortable! We will do any family portraits at the beginning of the session so that you are looking fresh and not too "glowy" ;)
Yes absolutely!! I love capturing your family with the newest member! We will take pictures of mom with baby, dad with baby, siblings with baby, and everyone together. I recommend neutrals typically but you can also match your wardrobe to your home decor if you plan to hang your portrait in your home! I'm happy to consult with you before your session on what looks best.
You'll receive full prep instructions before your session to help make sure baby is nice and sleepy. You'll feed baby upon arrival at the studio and then we will get started with family and sibling images. I take this feeding time as an opportunity to bond with older siblings and make them feel special. I'm very go with the flow, and if a sibling isn't feeling it right away, we start with parents. When we've completed this portion of the session, your job is to relax! I've got comfy seating and even a bed in the studio. You can watch some netflix, have a snack and cup of coffee, or even take a little nap! I'll let you know if baby is in need of some milk or a cuddle from you, otherwise I'll take care of everything. I may ask you to help for just a minute with some of the trickier poses that call for an extra set of hands but otherwise you are off duty! There's a play area for siblings or you can pop on some cartoons for them :)
After the session, I'll go through each of the images and narrow down your gallery to the very best. I'll do minor color corrections and crops on these images and then you'll receive the proofs in an online gallery within a week of the session. From there you'll have 5 days to choose your favorites to purchase. I'll edit those fully, smoothing skin, fixing backdrops, getting rid of any blemishes or dark under eye circles. Your final gallery will be ready within 2 weeks of your selection. I do offer professional prints, canvases and albums and those are available for purchase from your final gallery. If you know you'd like announcements ahead of time, we can get those out to you ASAP so that you may get them delivered to friends and family right away!
It's best to schedule your session during your second trimester. I only take a few newborn clients a month because babies like to make their appearance whenever they are ready! I block off your due date in my schedule to ensure we have flexibility to fit you in. Typically, newborn sessions take place at 9:30 or 10am on a weekday. Please let me know in advance if you will require weekend availability.

I have a variety of locations that I love throughout Fort Collins and Loveland. Colorado is so beautiful and the locations I love offer a lot of backdrops in a small space! If you've got a space in mind I am more than happy to check it out and see if it will work with my shooting style!
This is a great question!! All of my outdoor sessions take place just before sunset! Depending on the time of year this can vary from 3:30 to 7:30. The reason for this is to get the most beautiful light of the day and avoid harsh shadows and squinting eyes. I do offer sunrise sessions during the warmest parts of the year as well, so let me know if you are early risers! I do not offer outdoor family sessions December through February. It's just too cold and the weather is unpredictable! No one is happy in 13 degree snow flurries, and camera equipment starts to malfunction!
This is by far the most common question I answer :) After booking, you'll receive access to my private client lounge website where I go into great detail on the subject! But the most basic way to think about it is that you are planning one big outfit. Start with a color palette and textures and patterns that complement each other. White t-shirts and jeans for everyone is highly discouraged! Add items that fit each family member's personality and don't forget to accessorize from head to toe! Shoes matter too ;)
My sessions are meant to be a fun family bonding experience. We will run races, play games and have tickle fights. Come with your best inside jokes to get your kids laughing. I'll send you a questionnaire before the session so that I can custom tailor the experience to you. Of course we will do a few Christmas card pictures with everyone looking at the camera, but the in between moments full of movement, emotion, and connection are my favorite!

I recommend booking at least 4-6 weeks in advance to ensure your preferred date. Weekend availability is especially limited so be sure to book early if you can not do a weekday. Fall months of September, October and November tend to be peak times but I absolutely love the color and warmth of late spring and summer! Plus, you'd be ahead of the game when it comes to Christmas cards in the fall ;)
I don't use a lot of props in my sessions, but I do provide quilts, stools and little chairs. If you'd like, you can bring a special blanket or your kiddos lovey to your session. I do recommend bringing along a sippy of water for little ones and some low mess snacks just in case. It's best to keep them as secret trick up your sleeve though so we can avoid crumby clothes and messy faces ;) Please do not give your kiddo a blue sucker before your session, unless you are hoping for a hypothermia look ;)
I do! Outdoor mini sessions take place on a limited number of dates in the spring and fall. These sessions are shorter and I book multiple families back to back. This allows me to service more families in peak season and gets you a quick, low pressure session to update your holiday cards. I also offer styled studio mini sessions throughout the year such as Mommy and Me minis and Pajamas minis for your kiddos during the holiday season. If you are interested in mini sessions, be sure to sign up for my newsletter here.
